Baker Publishing Group and independent Christian bookstore Baker Book House are teaming up in a new online business venture. The website www.bakerbookhouse.com offers the discounts and programs available via a typical publisher website, along with the online shopping experience of a brick-and-mortar Christian bookstore offering products by a wide range of publishers. The site is now live.
The website is the publisher site for all BPG divisions—Baker Academic, Baker Books, Bibles, Brazos Press, Bethany House, Chosen, Revell—as well as the bookstore’s online e-commerce site. Books by all publishers typically carried in the 18,000-square-foot store are available at www.bakerbookhouse.com.
“We want to extend our mission ‘to equip the church’ to the web, offering customers both Christian community and an alternative experience to the online landscape dominated by big players,” said Sue Smith, Baker Book House manager.
Also available online will be Baker Book House’s popular used and bargain book sections, which feature over 100,000 titles. Bargain and used books pages on the site will be updated every 30 minutes to ensure accuracy of available titles.
“We’re excited about the possibilities for this venture,” said Dwight Baker, president of Baker Publishing Group. “We want visitors to find our BPG titles, but also the many titles carried at our retail partner Baker Book House. This site combines the best of both online worlds, especially as so many Christian bookstores are closing their doors.”
The popular Direct2Church program will be available via www.bakerbookhouse.com, as will unique content from Baker Book House staff and the in-store event schedule. Gifts and music are not yet available, but plans to include the categories are in the works.
