Danny Vera of Christ Centered Life Store in Ft. Myers, Florida, came through Hurricane Irma with some damage to his store, but his focus is on helping others. So far his store has been cooking meals, helping distribute food and water, collecting items and posting volunteer opportunities on their Facebook page. His store also was instrumental in getting Disaster Relief of the International Holiness Pentecostal Church to send their mobile kitchens, showers, and 20 workers to the area.

He also has written to friends and suppliers seeking contributions to help victims of the deadly storm. “We are the only Christian bookstore in this area and we have free warehouse space behind the store that we can use if your company would like to take part in this recovery effort. We need items to give out to the tens of thousands of desperate people.”

Vera plans to stock his conference room with donations that can be distributed to those in need. He will send an e-blast to his customer list to let them know they can pick up supplies for themselves or someone they know. Vera also will work with local churches and agencies to send boxes of literature to the very needy areas, including Naples, Everglades City, Immokalee, Lehigh Acres, Arcadia, Labelle, Ft. Myers, and Cape Coral.

Vera is asking for donations of Bibles, preferably modern translations; New Testaments; Scripture portions, especially the Gospel of John; promise books or boxes; any gift item that incorporates Scripture cards; and any books that would be ideal for this situation. He all will accept in of the donations in Spanish, in French or Creole, or for children.

“Lastly, if you can send the store a box of assorted best-sellers, this will help us cover some of the damages we incurred. This would be helpful since our deductible is way too high for any type of claim,” Vera writes. “God has provided all the channels to get this done and by faith we are believing you and our vendors, will come through very generously.”
