American Express’s recently released OPEN Holiday Growth Pulse survey of 1,000 small businesses with $250,000 or more in annual revenues found that 92 percent think sales will be the same or better than last year (44 percent of retailers are expecting stronger sales than 2014). In addition, 54 percent said they see their potential for growth in 2016 as being contingent on a successful holiday season. Among retailers, the biggest business concerns for Christmas sales are maintaining appropriate inventory levels and facing pressure to discount or offer costly promotions.
