CBA Retail Membership:

Qualifications and Joining


During the last six decades, thousands of Christian stores have made the decision to join CBA. We hope you'll join us too. We're stronger together.

Retail Membership

For retail establishments that:

  1. are open to the public a minimum of 40 hours a week,
  2. have 75% or more Christ-centered product in inventory,
  3. are located in a commercially zoned area,
  4. have an exterior sign visible to passersby,
  5. advertise to the general public on a regular basis,
  6. have business expenses paid for with proceeds from the store’s retail operation,
  7. and incur usual overhead expenses that are related to the everyday operation of a retail business. 

Any retail establishment, under any ownership, or in any retail setting, that meets the criteria above is eligible for full CBA retail membership. Christian stores that do not fully meet the criteria for this membership may still qualify for one of the memberships below:

Affiliate Retail Membership for College, Camp, and Church Stores

For retail establishments that:

  1. are Christian college, Christian camp, or church retail establishments,
  2. are involved in the sale of Christian literature and related products,
  3. have inventory consisting of at least 75% Christ-centered product,
  4. agree to adhere to the CBA Statement of Purpose.

Christian stores that qualify for CBA Retail Membership do not qualify for this membership.


Prospective Retail Membership

For individuals who:

  1. are considering opening a Christian retail store that will eventually become one of the member types listed above, but do not have a store name or location, etc, and are still in the deciding and planning stage, and are more than one month away from opening a store.

Alternative Retail Membership

For retail establishments (such as catalog, mail order, or Internet stores) that:

  1. are accepting orders a minimum of 40 hours a week,
  2. have 75% or more Christ-centered product in inventory,
  3. have been actively retailing Christian product for a minimum of one year,
  4. have wholesale accounts with at least three industry suppliers,
  5. have a customer base of 1,000 or more,
  6. are not subsidized by another organization in any way,
  7. advertise to the general public on a regular basis,
  8. own, rent, or contract equipment, services, and facilities,
  9. hold necessary retail licenses and pay related taxes and fees.
