According to an annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics for the National Retail Federation, consumers say they will spend an average of $967.13 this holiday season, up 3.4 percent from last year.

Increasing employment and income are attributed for the increased spending.

This consumer survey follows NRF’s annual holiday spending forecast which projects holiday retail sales in November and December this year will be up between 3.6 percent and 4 percent for a total between $678.8 billion and $682 billion.

In addition, according to NRF’s monthly Global Port Tracker report, imports set an all-time record high late this summer as retailers brought in an unprecedented amount of merchandise in anticipation of a strong holiday season.
