According to the Wall Street Journal, FedEx will change its ground-delivery pricing to be based on size, not just weight. The so-called dimensional pricing starts in January. The pricing change likely will cause online retailers to charge more for merchandise to cover shipping costs and affect online purchasing. Shipments of some often-replenished items bought online, including subscriptions, are expected to be among the hardest hit by this increase. More than a third of all U.S. FedEx ground shipments will experience a price increase, especially for bulky but lightweight packages. Many analysts believe United Parcel Service, which typically matches FedEx prices, will follow suit.
