For the second year, an Eerdmans book has been placed on the Texas Bluebonnet Award’s Master List. The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch by Chris Barton is a picture book biography about a man born into slavery who went on to become one of the first African-Americans elected to the United States Congress.

Twenty titles a year are placed on the Master List, which statewide librarians then promote throughout the next year. Students who read a minimum of five books from the current Master List (or have the books read to them) can vote for their favorite title, and the author of the book with the most votes is declared the winner of the Texas Bluebonnet Award.
