Israel announced an ambitious new project to piece together some of the thousands of fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls. A collaboration of scholars, computer science experts, and archives in Israel and around the world hope to make sense of 20,000 fragments of the 2,000-year-old texts. The $1.75 million project will use the latest digital tools to identify connections between fragments. Some 16,000 of an estimated 20,000 fragments have been digitally imaged to date.
