As the U.S. Supreme Court considers legalizing same-sex marriage, a group of Christian leaders sends the message “we will not obey,” warning the Supreme Court not to cross the line in redefining marriage as the union between a man and a woman.
The Pledge in Solidarity to Defend Marriage, co-drafted by Catholic Deacon Keith Fournier and Founder of Liberty Counsel Mat Staver, has been signed by religious leaders Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, Jerry Johnson, John Hagee, and Franklin Graham. Rick Scarborough and James Dobson were also involved in the document.
Scarborough summarized the heart of the issue, saying, “Christians are being declared the lawbreakers when we are simply living by what we have always believed, and by a set of laws that the culture historically has agreed to. Right now, the courts are changing the playing field and declaring that what the natural eye can see and natural law reveals is not truth. … What will we do, and how will we respond?”
