Every year the Pantone Color Institute (PCI) chooses a color that will influence fashion, home décor, and gift product for the next 12 months. For 2016 PCI has selected two colors of the year: Rose Quartz, a pale pink, and Serenity, a baby blue.

Laurie Pressman, VP of PCI, said the selection is a “fusion of two shades. Rose Quartz is a warm and embracing gentle rose tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity reflects a mindset of inner peace.”

Pressman says consumers are stressed out. These colors offer “some calm, and the opportunity to just switch off. There’s a calmness, but there’s also a happiness to it.

It’s the first time Pantone has picked two colors of the year since it debuted the designation in 1999.
